📍 Location & Trail Information
The Chasm View Nature Trail, on the North Rim of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, is a 0.3-mile loop that starts at the end of the one-way road through the North Rim Campground. The path leaves the pinyon and juniper forest for North Chasm View, where the Gunnison River lies 1,820 feet below and the South Rim stands only 1,100 feet away, the narrowest gap between the rims in the park. This is also where the river falls most sharply inside the park, dropping about 240 feet per mile. Farther along the rim, a second overlook looks across to Painted Wall and Serpent Point. The trail is unpaved, rocky in places, and rated easy to moderate. The North Rim is the quieter side of the park, and the road to it is closed to vehicles in winter and early spring.
